Tshuva – Repentance

Tomorrow night is the beginning of Yom Kippur, when Jewish people all over the world ask forgiveness for their sins. Personally, I don’t really connect with the Jewish “religious” establishment. But to be humble enough to admit I’m not perfect, that I need forgiveness… I can relate to that. This song is built primarily from quotes from the Hebrew Bible.

Translation of Lyrics:

We’ve sinned against You, Lord; we’ve not done as You’ve commanded. Our love has grown cold; we’ve not walked in Your ways. And as we come to Your house, our hearts broken and humbled, restore unto us the joy of Your salvation. “Have mercy upon me, O God, according to your lovingkindness. According to the multitude of your tender mercies blot out my transgressions,” O Lord.

Songs Under Fire – Release Bio
As residents of Southern Israel, Anthony & Irene Chapman have lived under ongoing rocket attacks. Their struggle to maintain faith, hope and love in the face of terror birthed these songs, each written during specific periods of violence.

“Hate” (2012, Operation Pillar of Cloud), defies hatred and violence, and hails love as the true victor.
“Sing to You” (2014, Operation Protective Edge) grapples with the complex emotions of those who send their loved ones to war.
“Prayer Under Fire” (2009, Operation Cast Lead) is a desperate plea for divine protection in the midst of peril, inspired by Psalm 91.

In a world full of conflict, difficulty, fear and loss, Anthony & Irene offer a glimpse into the complicated process of living through challenging experiences, yet not being overcome by them.
